Typed up on our flight home, finally got round to posting it now......Making the most of some quiet time on our flight to actually write an LJ post. On our way home from a fab but tiring and unhealthy weekend in Berlin. Our fourth visit to the Out of Line Weekender but this one was a bit different - we weren't the only non Germans here! What was always a bands focussed event, instead took on a social aspect. Much fun but meant i didn't get to sit between bands at all.

This year we arrived a day early as Wednesday flights were cheap. Got to our boat accommodation early evening, with a warm welcome and a free breakfast. :-)

Had dinner that evening in our usual Kreuzberg staple, Hasir for yummy Turkish meal - newly refurbished and new friendly staff, it was even more enjoyable than usual.

Followed by our usual baklava stop … new discovery, chocolate pistachio baklava, heaven! Back to our boat for drinks, where we were briefly joined by Susan and Hels, who were staying down the road with the rest of the British goth contingent.

Thursday we decided to explore Dahlem district, out west. As the weather was mizzly, we decided to forego the original plan to visit the Funkturm on the way and decided on the Olympic Stadium instead. A very interesting tour discovering this beautifully designed and historically significant building. Next door was another significant building, Corbusierhaus, which was fantastic to see ( for a modernist architecture geek like me anyway!)

gold leaf chapel

1936 Olympics medal table - Jesse Owens clearing the board in athletics.

After a quick wurst break :-) we got back on the s-bahn to Haus am Waldsee, an art exhibition space in a lakeside villa. The exhibition was based on Franz Marc’s missing Blue Horses painting, allegedly last seen here in 1944.

My favourite artist, this was a must do but sadly the exhibition was a little pretentious and abstract. There was also a pretty little sculpture garden by the lake.

hmmmm ......

as you can see, Rob's impressed .....

The sun had started to shine, so we decided to dash to Die Bruecke museum, on the edge of the Grünewald forest. A pleasant walk through the pretty suburb of Dahlem, to a museum I've wanted to visit for years. I was in expressionist art heaven, Rob was bored! ;-)

lots of lovely colourful arts!

Rob not so impressed again!

After all that culture it was time for beer. According to my map, we were close to a beer garden in the woods, so armed with my phone's GPS, we bravely set off into the unknown, hoping not to run into wild boar. Found the beer garden, which had a beautiful Swiss Chalet restaurant but it unfortunately was closed. Headed back towards Dahlem and found an Imbiss bar at the edge of the woods. Perfect to people-watch all the local dog walkers and one very very drunk lady.

We went a bit touristy for dinner, having been recommended the Georgenbrau in Nicholaiviertel. We were not disappointed. Great beer and fantastic hearty food - Rob had schnitzel and i had roast duck, yum! Service was excellent too, until the point when the waiter actually told us to leave him a tip. I was going to anyway, but it was then with some reluctance after he had the cheek to guilt us into doing so.

The rest of the night was spent at the Steampunk bar, 12 Grad Aetherloge. I'd suggested a meet up there on FB but had no idea if anyone would show. On arrival, we found Steph at the bar (someone we see more in Berlin than UK these days!) and we're soon joined by Ade and his friend Steve. So that turned out to be a good night, if a little more boozy than intended!
