I had a (slightly drunken) chat with a friend at Leipzig, with her enthusiastically getting us to feel her glutes in the middle of the street. She has suffered from severe arthritis since she was young but determined not to let it stop her, took up weight training. Such an inspiration, anyone who didn't know and saw her dancing all night at clubs and gigs, would not believe the suffering she's been through with the arthritis. As a consequence she is super toned, with legs like rock (not massive bulky muscles, as she has a tiny physique, just as toned as they possibly could be)
I've no plan to get to that level of fitness but my "mid-life crisis" interest in exercise was triggered by my cycling accident last summer; having to rest my leg for most of August really scared me into realising I had to do something about it.

Swimming has been my main form of exercise, since taking classes last year I now swim "properly", albeit still struggling with front crawl but no more head-up breaststroke for me. But to improve my swimming, I need to improve muscle strength and fitness overall. Can't do anything that takes up space in the flat - I have bought barbells but need to get into the habit of using them every day - and evenings are limited, so I need to brave some of the lunchtime classes at work.
