Churt Sculpture Park

As the Beltain Wicker Man event was a bit of a distance from home, and didn't start until late, we decided to make the day of it and find somewhere to stop off and go for a walk.  A rather interesting looking sculpture park popped up on my Google map and the penny didn't drop that this was the same one that various friends had visited recently.


Upon arrival, I spotted that the entrance fence was covered in dragons and daffodils, it seems that we'd arrived at a little enclave of Wales in Surrey! 

This was confirmed when we finally reached the reception/shop/ticket office when the rather frazzled lady in the office had a rather pronounced South Wales accent - Ebbw Vale, she affirmed, rather suspicious that I'd asked.  (I guess I don't sound Welsh any more!)

The sculpture park was quite something else, a warren of landscaped paths within 10 acres of land, displaying nearly 1000 sculptures from the conventional to the weird and rather wonderful. It was a garden centre on psychotropic drugs!
We were instructed to follow the route given in the guidebook (which we were told on no uncertain terms to return at the end of our visit!) and the route even went so far as to specify where to stop for a picnic! 
It was an incredible space but somewhat overwhelming and a couple of hours into our 4 hour visit, it all started to blur into one.  I did take very many photos, here are one or two of the highlights.

Great post! I'm wondering if I should make a note of your "daytrip" tag for ideas of places to visit. It's not so far from my mother (in theory) and the Sausage would be allowed in on a lead.
