Castlefest / Noordwijk - post 7 - Sunday at Castlefest and Monday journey home

Sunday, the final day. :-( how did that happen so soon!

Barring the slight accident it was overall a lovely trip away but the results of the accident did affect me socially, conscious I might spoil the festival for others, feeling awkward that I couldn't laze on the grass and have to go off and find seats instead, resulting in me and Rob spending more time by ourselves; also ironically having to walk around more instead of resting, relishing the few moments I had a chance to just sit and chill out like everyone else. The hay bales distributed in various areas of the festival grounds were a godsend, tall enough that I could get down to sit on them but low enough to not feel perched on a seat above everyone else, surprisingly comfy too!

Castlefest / Noordwijk Post 3 - a day at the seaside

Wednesday was supposed to be the best weather, so we'd planned to spend it at the beach, unfortunately it was a bit grey and gloomy but we kept to plan, with the intention of also hiring bikes for a couple of days.

Castlefest / Noordwijk Post 2 - a daytrip north

Tuesday. We'd been invited to Wendy and Gerrit’s place for a garden party, about an hour's drive north. Wendy had also booked for us to visit the Nederland Kremlin in the afternoon. To make the most of the day we had planned to visit. Brederode Castle on the way but found it closed on Tuesdays, however Facebook in its creepy way, posted a suggested as for Zaanse Schans, a twee village / open air museum just north of Amsterdam.

Continued our journey to Nederland Kremlin, arriving a tad early and were greeted by the artist's wife. Basically a garden of outsider art, the place consisted of a series of beautiful and quirky structures, mostly influenced by classical design, by a former mechanic/artist with no formal architectural training. The name derived from the familiar onion shaped domes of the main structure, but in addition to this Russian influence, Greek, Roman, Eastern and natural influences abound.

Castlefest / Noordwijk - post 1, Harwich and Ferry

(written on the ferry home on Monday 7th, posted today with photos inserted)

A week ago I was on the Stenaline ferry, heading to Holland. Not sure where the week has gone but now writing this on the ferry back home again, slightly broken (literally!) after a full week of beaches, barbeque, cycling and Castlefest.

Rob and I decided to head to Harwich a day early, taking advantage of a cheap Premier Inn deal, to avoid getting up at the crack of dawn for our ferry and spend some time exploring Harwich.
