Busy weekend!
15 February 2004 18:08Can't believe I have managed to fit so much into one weekend - it seems ages since I was last at work!
Friday night, there was a leaving do at work for Tracy (the person who employed me strangely enough!). I was a bit worried about going, as it was the first work social I'd been to but it was quite an enjoyable evening. Rob came to pick me up and was brave enough to walk into the pub to get me - only to be greeted by cries of "he does look like him, doesn't he!" from my work collegues! I had to explain to him in the car that we'd been talking about Lord of the Rings earlier!
Went home and got ready to go to Full tilt. We arrived at about 11 and it was very quiet but some really good music playing - just like the old days. Elsa arrived at about 12 and we were on the dancefloor practically all night - I could barely walk to the car afterwards! It was a great night though, we're planning to go a couple more times before it closes.
Saturday - valentines day. Decided against going out for a meal with the masses. Call me cynical, but I don't see anything romantic in being herded into a restaurant as if on a factory line, amidst swarms of other couples.
Instead we decided to go into London to see Lord of the Rings again, at Odeon West End. Got tickets right in the front row for the matinee performance and treated ourselves to Haagen Dazs Belgian Mocha Coffee - wow - worth every penny of its extortionate price.
The film was great on a big West End screen, very loud. So loud in fact that the seats shook during the battle scenes, which added to the atmosphere. Have decided though that its definately the slowest paced film of the trilogy, a number of the scenes could have been shortened and its really not right that I was thinking at the end "just get in that bloody boat so that I can go to the loo!"
Was starving hungry afterwards and wanted something quick and cheap, so we went to Mr Wu's - that has really gone downhill, the food was not great and they wanted us out as quick as possible. Needed to find a pub to counteract the salt and MSG overload, so decided to get out of Soho as it was heaving with people and walked up to the Fitzroy Tavern. That was surprisingly quiet and they served food - doh!
Today: on recommendation by a work collegue, decided to go for Sunday Lunch at the Abercorn Arms in Stanmore. Its a lovely pub, with comfy sofas, log fires, nice food and best of all, no children allowed! Had a relaxing couple of hours there, culminating with an amazing desert - Chocolate Fruit and Nut slice with clotted cream icecream - absolutely gorgeous! Had to go home to repot the tree that we've bought to go in the front garden - a curly hazel. I put it in a lovely Gothic stone pot and then decided it didn't look right in the spot planned for it, so its now on the door step. I hope its still there in the morning!
I must get off this now as I have to attempt to upload my website to its new host before the old one expires. Oh well, here goes!
