Its lovely to take a couple of days off work just for the hell of it! Rob and I have had a lovely relaxing couple of days. Yesterday evening I had a crafts evening to go to in Beaconsfield, so we decided to leave the house early and get something to eat in Beaconsfield beforehand. Had a really nice meal in a cosy pub called the White Hart, unfortunately I didn't realise until leaving that they were selling warm mulled wine at the bar, which would have finished the evening off perfectly!
The craft fair itself wasn't a huge success but it was a pleasant evening with a lovely atmosphere; the visitors and stallholders alike were really friendly and very appreciative of my work (would have been nice if they'd have bought more but at least the compliments were encouraging!) It was in a really posh hotel, the Bellhouse, so it was nice to have a bit of luxury.
Today I finally got to go to the Saatchi Gallery. It was very expensive (£8.75!) but I did enjoy it there. The surroundings are wonderful as it is located in the old County Hall which is a very grand building; and the artworks are really well laid out - lots of little rooms leading off a corridor with just one or two paintings in each room. This is how I feel art should be seen, I find most art galleries too cluttered and confusing, this layout allowed for more focus on each piece of work.
All the well known pieces were located in the main hall; Damien Hirst's shark, Tracey Emins bed, Chris Ofili, Ron Mueck etc. I still find that Damien Hirst's work leaves me cold but I loved seeing the pieces by Ron Mueck, the detail in his sculptures is so accurate, you expect them to start breathing! I also loved the Peter Doig room, I used to do dupes of his work while at Devtank but they in no way prepared me for the intense colour and detail of the actual paintings.
The rest of the day was spent wandering round Covent Garden and getting some Xmas shopping done. I also called in to see if Devtank was still open. Gary was still there, but they are closing on Xmas eve, we have to arrange to meet up for a drink before they close down for good.
