Ballet week
24 January 2011 09:03Yesterday I took a much needed break from the sewing and went to the Ballet. Courtesy of a couple of surplus tickets offered to us by
illiadri , Rob and I went to see Matthew Bourne's Cinderella at Sadlers Wells.

The story was updated to WW2 era and although it was one of the aspects that appealed to me, I did have some concern that it might be a bit drab as a result - couldn't have been more wrong!
The show was absolutely stunning! Incredible sets, some of which literally made me gasp in surprise, beautiful costumes and great performances - OK, I'm no ballet afficionado but was impressed by what I saw, particularly the evil Stepmother who was rather fantastic (and had all the best dresses!)
It was well paced from beginning to end and although the ending was a bit odd, I guess that was neccessary due to the change in premise of the story.
A few pics i found online. Couldn't find any of the train (yes, there was a moving train on set at one point!) or the wartime scenes but these give some idea of the spectacle.

If it wasn't for the fact that was the last performance of the current run, i would recommend everyone to go see it. Even Rob enjoyed it! ;-)
On the subject of ballet, we're going to see Black Swan at the Curzon Soho tomorrow (Tuesday) - 18.55 performance if anyone else is interested in coming.
I shouldn't be online too much today (have booked the day off to have a "sewing day" at home and shouldn't be distracted by the interweb!), so if anyone does want to see the film tomorrow, we'll be getting our tickets asap after work (as usual we'll probably be sitting towards the front) and will be waiting in the bar area before the film.
