So I spent much of the weekend being a whiney emo on Facebook - I hate being ill. Don't get ill often but when I do get a cold or similar it tends to hang around for ages; admittedly the fact that i hate being ill and having to stop everything to recuperate could well be the reason why they tend to linger for so long! Fortunately the plague is slowly starting to go away, my voice gradually coming back and should be fine for next weekend! (just pray that Rob doesn't get it now!)
Friday night, instead of being sensible and going home, I met up with

Saturday morning, the plague came back with a vengeance, as if to punish me for daring to go out, so I was pretty grumpy about the fact that I wouldn't be able to go to Vagabonds that night. However, other than the coughing and lack of voice, I was feeling right as rain, which made my house-arrest even more frustrating.
Instead, spent the day being brave and started cutting out my birthday fabric; it took a long time to plan out, to ensure i could match the pattern as much as possible whilst not running out of fabric mid-way through but eventually I got to the stage to brave the scissors

Finally cut out all the pieces by dinner time. It was impossible to match up the design properly as there isn't a single straight line in the jacket pattern! So I tried to at least match up at distinctive points and ensure that the design was consistant (ie dragons aligning with the waistline all round)
After a successful day and still feeling fit as a fiddle despite the cough, decided to throw caution to the wind and go to Vagabonds anyway. figured I could always stay on the dancefloor and not speak too much? OK, wrong on both parts there :-) but fortunately my voice was gradually getting better and could form full croaky sentences. A fun night was had and we did stay until the end - oops! :-)
Sunday was spent at home making up my jacket. Made really good progress and the bulk of it has now been completed, only brought to a temporary halt as I've had second thoughts on the colour of bias binding purchased (new ebay purchase today, hope it arrives soon!).
My attempt to align the fabric's pattern was not 100% successful but not bad for a first attempt, the only disappointment being one dragon's head quite noticeably disappearing into the back seam - the one place where the design should have lined up properly but I think the fabric might have slipped when I cut it out. :-( However, pretty good overall and the jacket's shape is beautiful.
More progress photos to follow soon!
